Investigating people who help us in Reception

Lesson: Understanding the World

Class: Reception M & W Year: 2024 - 2025

As part of our first topic 'Amazing me and my community', the children have been investigating lots of 'People who help us'. This began with the children thinking about the people who help us in school and they enjoyed going on  big walk around the wider school meeting school staff and learning about their different jobs, all of which help them on a day to day basis. In week two,  the children learnt about the Emergency services and how in an emergency they would call 999! They have made some fantastic models of a police car and ambulance in contonuous provision for them to role-play with! In our third week we had a wonderful visit from Nurse Ellie who works at the children's hospital, she taught us all about what she does on a day to day basis and the children were able to role-play Ellie's job helping poorly Ted. This week using the family photos parents have sent to us on Tapestry the children were able to talk through the people who help us at home. We spoke about how are families at home may have similarities and differences and the children were able to list what these people did to help them. As a thankyou to the people helping at home the children bakes fruity flapjack to give as a token of appreciation! We will also be exploring builders and librarians. Please see some of our photos of their experiences so far!
