Communication Curriculum

Communication Curriculum

The communication curriculum includes the subjects of English, Spanish and P.E. As an ELKLAN-accredited Communication Friendly School, we recognise that communication skills are vital to enable pupils to reach their full potential both academically and socially. Our spiral curriculum for these subjects promotes communicating in different ways and self-expression through timetabled lessons, whole school communication themed days and lots of opportunities to apply communication skills. We use the Write Stuff and a whole class, shared reading approach to support the teaching of English which emphasises the use of oracy. We use the Little Wandle Phonics Programme to support the teaching of phonics. Our P.E. curriculum is supported by City in the Community and, in additiona, a specialist dance teacher. Our Spanish spiral curriculum is supported by the Language Angels scheme of work. We offer our pupils a wide range of activities, including after school sports' clubs and inter and intra school sports' competitions to develop and apply sporting skills and sportsmanship as demonstrated by our achievement of the Platinum Schools Sports Mark in 2024, one of only 7 primary and secondary schools in the city of Manchester to achieve this in 2024..
