Outdoor Classroom Day
Outdoor Classroom Day is a global campaign to celebrate and inspire outdoor learning and play. On Thursday 12th October thousands of schools including Ashbury Meadow around the world took lessons outdoors and prioritised playtime.
Outdoor learning improves children’s health, engages them with learning and leads to a greater connection with nature. Play not only teaches critical life skills such as resilience, teamwork and creativity, but is central to children’s enjoyment of childhood.
Our EYFS collected leaves and sticks to paint, Year 1 made 2D and 3D shapes out of sticks foraged from around our school grounds.
Year 2 got their baking hats on and made cookies whilst Year 3 made English come to life by making storyboards out of sticks, leaves and grass to show scenes from their favourite fairy tales, then moved on to building skyscrapers!
Year 4 went on a historical Roman artefact excavation around the school grounds, whilst Year 5 listened to all the different sounds around them to create fantastic poems. Finally, our Year 6 took their acting skills outside to follow a treasure map to dig for buried gold, but ended up finding a skull instead!
