Mr Birks

Dear Parents and Carers,


We hope you had a wonderful summer break. We are very excited to welcome the children back to school and to start our learning journey together this term.

The Squirrel class teacher is Mr Birks, and our teaching assistants are Miss Dawn and Mr Ali.

Our Learning This Half Term

English – We will begin by focusing on traditional tales and exploring the story ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ Later, we will be creating our own Wanted posters!
Maths - We will start the year by looking at place value to 100. Then we will explore addition and subtraction strategies.
Art – We will develop our sketching skills and draw an eye.
Science – Our focus is Forces and Magnets. We will investigate what materials are magnetic..
Geography – We will look at weather and climate and answer the key question, ‘Why is climate so important to us.
Religion and Worldviews – We will be exploring Christianity and the key question: “Is it possible to be kind to everyone all of the time?
PE - PE lessons will take place on Tuesdays/Wednesdays. (confirmation will be sent home by Mr Birks). On PE days, children should come to school wearing the correct PE kit: White top, Black trousers, shorts, or leggings and suitable trainers.

Reading Every child will read daily with an adult in school, using a book matched to their ability. Children will also be set a book on E-Collins. Please encourage 10 minutes of reading every day. A reading record will be provided; please sign it when your child has read with you. Reading records must br brought to school each day.

Homework and Spellings

• Maths: Children will practise using Numbots and Times Tables Rockstars.
• English: Weekly spelling practice.
• Homework will be given out on Fridays. Children’s logins will be stuck into the front of their homework books.

Knowledge Organisers
Each week, children will also be set 10 minutes of topic homework, linked to our Knowledge Organisers. These contain the key facts and knowledge children need for their subjects. Knowledge Organisers will be uploaded to our class page.
