Squirrel Class Page

Welcome to Squirrel Class!

We hope you had a wonderful summer break. We are very excited to welcome the children back to school and to begin our learning journey together this term.

The Squirrel Class teacher is Miss Smith, and our teaching assistants are Miss Dawn and Mr Ali.

Our Learning This Half Term

English

We will begin by focusing on our fundamental writing skills, looking at what makes a simple sentence. We will then make progress towards writing for a purpose.

Maths

We will continue to build on our knowledge of counting in tens, hundreds and thousands. We will then move on to learning the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.

Art

We will develop our drawing skills by exploring how ancient people created drawings using different materials in caves.

Science

Our focus will be on forces and magnets. We will investigate contact and non-contact forces.

Geography

We will explore climates around the world. Children will learn how to use atlases, maps and globes.

Religion and Worldviews

We will be exploring Sikhism through the key question: “Does joining the Khalsa make a better Sikh?”

PE

PE lessons will take place on Mondays. Confirmation will be sent home by Miss Smith.

On PE days, children should come to school wearing the correct PE kit:

  • White top
  • Black trousers, shorts or leggings
  • Suitable trainers

Spanish

The children will be learning how to greet others in Spanish.

Reading

Every child will read daily with an adult in school, using a book matched to their ability. Children will also be assigned a book on e-Collins.

Please encourage your child to read for 10 minutes every day. A reading record will be provided; please sign it whenever your child has read with you.

Reading records must be brought to school each day.

Homework and Spellings

  • Maths: Children will practise using Numbots and Times Tables Rock Stars.
  • English: Weekly spelling practice.
  • Homework: Homework will be given out on Fridays and should be returned on Mondays.

Knowledge Organisers

Each week, children will also be set 10 minutes of topic homework linked to our Knowledge Organisers.

Knowledge Organisers contain the key facts and knowledge children need for their subjects. They will be uploaded to our class page.
