Year 6D 2019 - 2020

Miss Dempsey

Welcome to Year 6!

Mr Largent, Miss Dempsey and Mr Long would like to wish you a warm welcome back to Ashbury Meadow after the Easter break.

Please see 'Year 6 Summer subjects’ overview' below for information about what the children will be learning this half term.

Year 6 pupils will sit their SAT tests this half term. The dates of the test are listed below.

Monday 13th of May

Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar – Paper 1

Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar – Paper 2

Tuesday 14th of May

English Reading

Wednesday 15th of May

Maths Paper 1 – Arithmetic

Maths Paper 2 – Reasoning

Thursday 16th of May

Maths Paper 3 - Reasoning

On the days of these tests it is vital that pupils are in school. School will open for Year 6 pupils at 8.30am on the days of the test for pupils to be registered and come into school for a light breakfast.

Using the internet at home or visiting the local library will allow your child to research and increase their learning of the curriculum in Year 6.

Children will need to wear their PE kits every WEDNESDAY. A white top and black tracksuit trousers or shorts are acceptable with appropriate shoes.

Please make sure your child comes to school with a water bottle.

All of the children are given home reading books to read at home. Books are changed once a week but only if they have brought their finished book into school. Please make comments about your child’s reading and sign your child’s home reading diary when you read with them. We would appreciate it if you could continue to listen to your child reading at home for 10 minutes per night and ask your child questions about the text your child has read. Having an adult or older sibling listen to them reading will benefit your child immensely and help them to make excellent progress in reading and writing. Home reading diaries are excellent ways of communicating progress/concerns regarding your child’s reading between parents/guardians and staff in school and we continue to look forward to using them effectively with you. Additionally, your child has been given a mathletics account and we encourage children to use mathletics at home to improve their maths skills and number fact knowledge. Children in Year 6 are encouraged to come into school early at 8.20am so that they can practise their reading and maths skills using the Lexia and mathletics programmes.

May we remind you that homework is given out on a Friday and should be handed in on a Tuesday at the latest.

 Many thanks
