Reception Newsletter January 2018

First of all Mandy, Martin, Rena, Emma and I would like to say a big thank you all for the

wonderful gifts and cards we received for Christmas, they were very much appreciated.

This 1/2 term our topic is ’Elf’ and Safety

In the ‘Elf’ part of our topic we will be finding out how traditional stories are written. We will learn all about the characters, the settings and the sequence of events. Linking to the ‘Elf’ part of our topic – is Safety - we will be talking about issues of safety that arise from the stories, for instance, should Little Red Riding Hood have talked to someone she did not know? - The Big Bad Wolf. Did Goldilocks do the right thing when she went into the 3 Bears cottage? All of the activities are aimed at developing your child’s understanding of right from wrong and what the consequences might be if they make the wrong decisions.

As usual we could do with your help: This 1/2 terms theme is based around Traditional Stories – every country and culture has their own stories that have been passed down from generation to generation – how would you feel coming into school and sharing them with the children. If you don’t have the time you could record them so that the children could listen to them.

To support our learning, we have arranged a visit from Yellow Brick Road Theatre Company; they will be in school on January the 16th. There will be a cost of £3.50 per child. If you would like to take part please let a member of staff know.

Attendance and Punctuality – if your child is not in school on time or off school altogether they miss so much learning – please make sure your child is in school, on time, every day.

Thanks for your continuing support and we all look forward to working with you for the rest of the year.
